While the whole world knows about the disaster that hit the New Orleans area, there is also what has been unfolding across Louisiana and Mississippi, where close to 1,000 Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been doing something about it.
The Volunteer Minister Corps is a worldwide grassroots movement open to anyone interested in helping others. The program answers the question "How can I help?" by providing a broad range of practical skills based on a true understanding of the spiritual nature of man and the factors which influence his survival. With these skills, a Volunteer Minister can help relieve pain and sorrow, and remedy confusion, conflict, upset and even failure in virtually every aspect of life.
Scientology Volunteer Ministers provide assistance in many different areas of life, and they were there from the beginning to provide real relief in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. As for how it rolled out:
While the authorities were buried in red tape and slow to act, the VMs went in with the miracle technology of L. Ron Hubbard and immediately went to work.
In true VM style, they found out what was most needed and wanted, and provided it — such as tetanus shots for the relief workers, to protect them against the heavily contaminated environment.
Applying technology from the Scientology Handbook with rave success, the Volunteer Ministers are now looked to for leadership by city governments, military, police forces, religious leaders and civilian, local and federal disaster relief agencies alike.
At every stage of the disaster relief, the VMs were there: unloading vital supplies for thousands in Louisiana shelters; keeping the rescue workers and police on their feet; and working side-by-side with the National Guard to repair the city.
Now, a Harlem Scientologist has established a school in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi that is bringing effective education to children made homeless by Katrina. The school uses the study technology of L. Ron Hubbard as the basis of its curriculum.
